Do my brake pads really need changing? Ask these three questions
How thick, what about the discs, and can I see a photo.

Brake pads are the job drivers most fear being oversold — yet the answer is a number.
1. How many millimetres are left?
New pads are about 10–12 mm; most makers suggest replacing around 3 mm.
2. What about the discs?
Ask for thickness against the minimum stamped on the disc. Above it, they can be skimmed or reused.
3. Can I see a photo?
A photo with a gauge in the frame is the best evidence there is.
